On January 30, 2020 the cadets from Minnesota and their guests were treated to the 3rd Annual Minnesota Night at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Minnesota Parents club hosted 260 Minnesota cadets and guests. This year we also invited South and North Dakota cadets and their guest to join us. The menu consisted of Tatertot hot dish, chicken wings, corn dogs, cheese curds, Minnesota wild rice soup, Honeycrisp apples with caramel, carrots and dip. The cadets were able to make their own type of lefse with different toppings for dessert but the real treat, for any Minnesotan, was the Sweet Martha’s cookies on the tables. The cadets were grateful for the “home-cooked” meal and explained the menu to their friends who were in attendance.
During the night while the cadets and guests enjoyed their meal, Dave Ryan of KDWB 101.3 entertained them with silly games, Minnesota trivia and a lot of fun. The cadets enjoyed having Dave back for the second year and the Doolies were shocked to see Dave emceeing the evening. Dave walked around the tables so that the cadets could enjoy their meal while playing many different games with them so that they could try to win some of the wonderful prizes donated for the evening. The last gift the cadets and their guests received was a goodie bag full of Minnesota products from 3M, General Mills and other donors that they could take back to their rooms and enjoy at a later time. A guest of a Minnesota cadet could be heard saying as they left, “You better invite me next year; you are all too nice!” That is what this evening is about, sharing our love with our cadets and their guests, giving them a taste of home and a chance to relax.
